>>Work together with a group of classmates. Think of as many instances as you can where the term culture or cultured appears. For example, when do you hear other people that you know (family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, teachers and so on) use the term? When do you use them yourself? Where have you seen the terms in written texts or heard them used on radio and television or in the movies? Make a list of occasions when you have encountered or used the terms. Categorize the various uses of the terms. Are they used in the same way in each instance or do their meanings differ? Explain your answer. How do you account for the similarities and differences in the use of the terms? Compare the results of your group discussion to the results of other groups.

people use the term "culture" in various ways. First of all, we can usually hear the word "culture" as a expression of development from tv public advertisement. For examle, ads say that cultured people always fasten their seat belts before they drive. Secondly, when people discuss about the crash of the think people in the same region commonly have in mind, we say it as a discussion of cultural crash. Korean culture. Amercian culture, Japanese culture, or ,Asian culture can be used in those way. Another uses of the word appears when people go to music concerts or movies. As they watch the films or enjoy the time with the singers, they might say "We expreienced cultural stuff."
In my opinion, a similarity of them is that all of those "culture" is based on the common intersts or mood of the people in the specific group or regions. Cultured people are the only ones who are educated and learned the way of life, not savage paleolithic people. Korean culture is only applied to the Korean. Asian Culture is what the Asian people usually have in common.
And the differences is the size, place or level of concepts that cover different boundary. For example, Japanese culture is only limited to people who understand Japanese mind. However, the Asian Culure cover the whole region in Asia including Japan. That is the differences Japanese culture and Asain culture is the level of the concepts.

A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

What I am really interested in is languages. Because I love to learn and use them, my dream is to become a multilingual person who at least can speak 8 languages. And from the past I prepared to make my dreams come true. I watch movies without subtitles. When I see the subtitles, I compare real English usage and translation in Korean and evaluate their aptness. Also, when I read books, I read the same book which printed in Korean and think about the translation. When I study Russian, because of lack of the reading and listening materials, I read text books over and over again. Moreover, in order to test my Russian ability, I took a test named Test of Russian as a Foreign Language. Even though I passed whole section except speaking, I would never give up and practice a lot in speaking with my Russian teacher in my school. Japanese which I started to study lately is pretty familiar to study than other languages. Because of the shortage of the Japanese class in my school I attend Japanese institute in Jongno. From there I finished basic of Japanese and I use Japanimations(Japanese animations) and J-pop songs to get used to the Japanese. Before I get into college, I would conquer these three languages and also, study Korean, my native language, enough to teach foreigners. I want to learn a lot of languages; Spanish, Chinese, German, Arab, Hebrew, Italian, French and so on. I hope that entering colleges in the USA could be the source of many languages. Moreover, I wish I could help other students who learn languages as a major in the college.

Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

Living until now, I have one big decision that wholly changed my life. When I was in 7th grade, as having always wanted to not be normal, I wondered what I like and wanted to be. At that time, I was interested in biology and chemistry I firmly decided to go to science high school. Because, in Korea, students must be divided in two groups: of who like to study science and math and of who like to study social issues and arts when they go to high school, I never thought about studying social problems or foreign languages. I even did not look at those categories. I studied only science for 2 years of middle school. However, the more I study science, the more I got bored and reality studying science was not what I admired. Rather, when I watch movie, drama or meet foreigners, I wanted to understand everything they say and even wanted to speak with them. Moreover, I found that I become really excited when I say same things in a different language and they understand me. Therefore, in the 9th grade, 1 year left to the entrance exam of science and Foreign Language High Schools, I changed my mind to go to FLHS. In order to pass the exam I devoted to study English and finally I could enter this school which I now attend. I am now studying English, Russian, and Japanese and really satisfied in this school. If I had not changed my way and stayed in that position, I have lived entirely boring school life.
